Celeus is a Celtic god worshipped in southern Gaul.
Myth
Unknown.
Cult
Celeus received votive and dedicatory offerings from his worshippers; otherwise little is known of the specifics of his cult.
Etymology
The origin of Celeus’ name is unclear; I’ve seen it suggested that it derives from the Proto-Celtic *kelo or “to hide” which could indicate a hidden or secret aspect of the god.
There is as well a Proto-Celtic *keiljo or “companion” but as I am not a linguist I hesitate to do more than mention it in passing.
Region
Celeus is known from a single inscription found in the south of France.
