Atum (Tem) is an Egyptian god, complex and self-created, associated with great primordial forces. He is considered to have been the first of the gods, who existed before the beginning and will continue to exist after the end.
He is a very old god, and had a particular center of worship in Heliopolis.
Atum is depicted here wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. He carries the was staff, a symbol of power, in one hand and the ankh, a symbol of life, in the other.
Atum of the dark waters, O great among many,
first among the gods, I praise and honor you.
