Name(s): Dian Cecht, Dian Cécht, Diancécht. His name is believed to mean “swift power.”

Parents: According to the Dindshenchas, the Dagda is the father of Dian Cecht. However, in Lebor Gabala Erenn he is said to be the son of Esarg and brother of the crafting gods Creidhne, Gobniu and Luchtaine.

Tales: The Battle of Mag Tuired. In this tale Dian Cecht, along with his children, helped to heal those injured in the battle. The four of them are able to bring the mortally wounded back to life by chanting over the well Slaine

After Nuada lost his arm, Dian Cecht made him a silver arm, but even with this Nuada was not allowed to rule; with the help of Airmed, Miach was able to regrow Nuada’s flesh arm so he could rule–angered by Miach’s greater skill, Dian Cecht killed his son.

After Miach’s death, Airmed wept at his grave and all the healing herbs grew there. She attempted to organize them, but unfortunately Dian Cecht scattered the herbs, destroying her work as well.
