Hathor

Hathor is an Egyptian goddess associated with fertility, motherhood, love, beauty, joy, music and dance. She is an Eye of Ra, an agent and protector of the sun-god.

Hathor is a very old goddess whose was originally worshipped in Upper Egypt but was eventually honored throughout the land. She had a particular center of worship in the city of Dendera.

Hathor is depicted here wearing her crown, in which the sun disk and uraeus snake are held by the horns of the cow. She carries the was staff, a symbol of power, in one hand and the ankh, a symbol of life, in the other.

Hathor may also be depicted in the full form of a cow.

Hathor, lady of gold, mistress of joy and pleasure,
steadfast friend of women, I praise and honor you.
