Isis (Aset) is an Egyptian goddess associated with sovereignty (her name means “throne”), magic, wisdom and knowledge, marriage and motherhood. She is the wife of Osiris (Wesir) and the mother of Horus the Younger (Heru-sa-Aset).

She is a very old goddess whose exact origins are uncertain, but may have been first worshipped near Busiris in Lower Egypt. She was widely honored throughout ancient Egypt, and later in surrounding regions including Greece and Rome.

Isis is depicted here wearing the throne crown, as is typical in earlier representations of the goddess. She carries the was staff, a symbol of power, in one hand and the ankh, a symbol of life, in the other.

She was also depicted in later times wearing the crown typically worn by Hathor in which the sun and uraeus snake are cradled by the horns of the cow. She may also be depicted in the full form of a bird, the kite, or as a woman with outstretched wings.
