Khnum is an Egyptian god associated with creation and protection; he is considered to be self-created, and was said to create human beings from clay at his potter’s wheel. He is also the god of the source of the Nile river.
Khnum is a very old god with great importance in Upper Egypt. He had a particular center of worship at Elephantine.
Khnum is depicted here as a man with the head of a ram. He carries the was staff, a symbol of power, in one hand and the ankh, a symbol of life, in the other.
Khnum of the crumpled horn, self-created one,
worker upon the wheel, I praise and honor you.
