Set

Set (Seth) is an Egyptian god associated with change, chaos and disorder, war and battle, and the desert.

Once an important deity in Upper Egypt, as a god associated with disorder, Set was less popular than a number of other deities, although the 19th Dynasty of Ramses had close ties with him. Set had a particular center of worship in the city of Ombos.

Set is depicted here as a man with the head of an unidentified animal usually referred to as the “Set beast.” He carries the was staff, a symbol of power, in one hand and the ankh, a symbol of life, in the other.

In other art Set is depicted in the full form of the Set beast.

Set of the red land, before whom the sky shakes,
breaker of boundaries, I praise and honor you.
