Taweret (Tauret) is an Egyptian goddess associated with fertility, motherhood and childbirth;
She was primarily a household goddess, worshipped in the home, and thus did not have a particular regional center of worship.
Taweret is depicted here as an anthropomorphic hippopotamus, her hair in a long golden braid. She holds the sa symbol, representing protection.
She may also be depicted as a woman with the head of a hippopotomus, or as a hippopotamus with a lion’s paws and an alligator’s tail. She is sometimes shown wearing Hathor’s crown, consisting of horns holding a solar disk and uraeus snake.
Taweret, friend of women, friend of the home,
guardian of the family, I praise and honor you.
