Last night I made prayer beads for Apollo and Artemis, each with a focus on one of their sacred animals.

The Artemis beads are made of amazonite gemstone beads (not inappropriate for the free-spirited goddess!) with a bronze-toned bear charm. At her temple at Brauron, Artemis was served by young girls known as “little bears”; thus the bear reminds us of the goddess’ care of young women. The bear is also representative of Artemis’ role as Mistress of the Animals.

The beads are approximately 10.5″ (26.7cm). They come with a prayer to Artemis, written specifically to be used with this prayer bead design and with a cotton muslin bag for storage. You can, of course, use the beads with any prayers, or for any god or gods, that you choose or that resonate with you.

The Apollo beads are made of tiger eye gemstone beads with a silver-toned wolf charm attached. Apollo is associated with the wolf by way of his mother Leto, who was guided by wolves to the River Xanthos in Lykia to bathe her babies once they were born.
