New in my Etsy Shop: Wire-wrapped Prayer Beads

I’m actually not quite sure how best to describe these, but basically they are
prayer beads made with rosary-style chain construction. Rosary-style chain is made by threading each bead separately with wire, forming a wire link on either side and joining the beads together with those links. Wire-wrapping adds extra strength and durability to the chain and the finished piece. They have a different “feel” to them in use than the other beads in my shop–kind of an apples-and-oranges thing–and they are way more time-consuming to make, but also a lot of fun.

I listed six to start:

Aphrodite

Athena

Dionysos

Hades

Hestia

Poseidon

What’s In My Etsy Shop

As a multi-faith polytheist I honor many gods, and most of the beads I carry in my shop are for gods I have honored and do honor myself, although I have done and will do custom beads for gods from other pantheons. So my shop-stocking process tends to be a little unique–I try to keep something in stock for many gods regardless of whether the pieces sell, because I think they should be there. And I try to restock sold items as soon as I can with something similar–again because I think they should be there.

I’ve been meaning to do this for ages and finally got around to it. Here’s a list of links to all the deities I have in my shop, arranged alphabetically and by pantheon.

My Etsy Shop: Custom Orders

I try not to have too many posts in this blog that are mainly or mostly commercial; after all, I’ve got a whole other blog for that (which you can see here if you’re interested). I may not be very organized (and I’m not) but I do like to keep a small amount of order in my writings. So, for the most part, I don’t write much here about my Etsy shop, but occasionally I do and this is one of those occasions. Usually it’s me showing off something I’m particularly happy to have made, but today it’s me talking about things I am particularly happy to make–custom orders. I love making prayer beads, but there’s something about making something specifically for someone that is especially rewarding.

If you want a set of beads for the Greek gods based on an existing design, but made with your choice of materials (type of bead, type of charm/pendant, etc.), that’s the easy one. If I need to order the components, there will likely be a delay until they arrive.

If you want a set of beads for a Greek god under a specific epithet or with a focus on a specific aspect of the deity (i.e. Apollo as healer vs. Apollo as patron of the arts), I can do that as well–for example, if you want a set for Zeus Meilichios, we might use a snake (a common representation of Zeus in this guise) as the pendant rather than the lightning bolt that is a more typical Zeus symbol.

If you want beads made for a deity from a different pantheon, we’ll have to discuss design (number of beads and so forth); since I am more familiar with some groups of gods than with others, some discussions may be more extensive than others. As a multi-faith polytheist I may or may not have ideas already in mind. 🙂

All my prayer beads come with a prayer. You don’t have to use it, but it’s important to me that it is included. I think of myself as a tool-maker, and I feel that my tools should be ready to use.

Cost will depend on components; you can look through the items currently in my store for a rough idea. I generally use metal components that are affordable but sturdy, so they may not be hypoallergenic. I can order other components if this is an issue but it may add to the cost, and of course to the time it will take to make and will depend on availability, although I do keep some stainless steel findings on hand. Once a design is decided on I can give you a rough estimate of the cost.

Please message me, here or via Etsy with any questions.

New in my Etsy Shop: Prayer Beads for the Norse Gods

Today I’m introducing a new shop section and prayer bead design: pocket prayer beads for the Norse gods.

As a multi-faith polytheist*, I tend to go where I am most drawn in spiritual matters. My first pantheon was Greek, starting with Aphrodite and followed by numerous other Greek deities, all of whom I have continued to worship for over sixteen years. My second pantheon was that of the Norse gods, whom I have honored for nearly as long.

So today, after some suggestions and inspiration, I am adding a new prayer bead design and section to my shop, for the Norse gods. I am starting small, with beads for Freyja, Frey and Skadhi, but hope to add to it soon. As always, each set of beads comes with a prayer written for that deity and that prayer bead design, and with a cotton muslin bag for storage. You can, of course, use the beads with any prayers, or for any god or gods, that you choose or that resonate with you.

The Freyja beads are made with 10mm pale honey-colored fire-polished Czech glass beads, separated by gold-toned metal spacer beads, and glass seed beads to provide a comfortable transition from one bead to the next and to make the piece lightweight, supple, and easy to handle. The loop itself is approximately 9″ (22.9cm) in circumference and the pendant hangs from a 3″ (7.6cm) string. The beads are designed to be used in prayer and meditation, to decorate an altar or shrine, and/or to adorn a statue.

They are available here at my Etsy shop.

The Frey beads are made with 10mm deep green fire-polished Czech glass beads, separated by silver-toned metal spacer beads, and glass seed beads to provide a comfortable transition from one bead to the next and to make the piece lightweight, supple, and easy to handle. The loop itself is approximately 9″ (22.9cm) in circumference and the pendant hangs from a 3″ (7.6cm) string. The beads are designed to be used in prayer and meditation, to decorate an altar or shrine, and/or to adorn a statue.

The Skadhi beads are made with 10mm fire-polished Czech glass beads in dark blue and crystal-clear glass with an aurora finish, separated by silver-toned metal spacer beads, and glass seed beads to provide a comfortable transition from one bead to the next and to make the piece lightweight, supple, and easy to handle. The loop itself is approximately 9.25″ (23.5cm) in circumference and the pendant hangs from a 3″ (7.6cm) string. The beads are designed to be used in prayer and meditation, to decorate an altar or shrine, and/or to adorn a statue.

They are available here at my Etsy shop.

* I have a complicated relationship with my practice. Not with the gods–the gods, on the whole, have always been pretty straightforward. But I keep and have always kept my practices with regard to separate pantheons, well, separate. I am pretty sure that this has more to do with me than it does with them. But my godphone is practically nonexistent, so when I do get a sense of something I try to run with it.

At my Etsy Shop: Two for Poseidon

While I always fall in love, just a little bit, with pretty much everything I make, there is something about Poseidon that really brings that out. I made a couple of things last week for the sea-god that I am particularly happy with.

p-poseidon3_main

These are made with Czech fire-polished glass beads in turquoise and black, colors reminiscent of the sea on a dark and stormy day. separated by gold-toned spacer beads and glass seed beads to make the piece flexible and easy to handle. The beads are joined by a copper seahorse pendant with a blue-green patina.

The beads are approximately 11″ (28cm). They come with a prayer to Poseidon, written specifically to be used with this prayer bead design and with a cotton muslin bag for storage. You can, of course, use the beads with any prayers, or for any god or gods, that you choose or that resonate with you.

They are available here at my Etsy shop.

sp-poseidon2 and 3

These are made with white and ocean blue imperial jasper gemstone beads, colors reminiscent of the white foam that tops the ocean waves, separated by copper-toned spacer beads and glass seed beads to make the piece flexible and easy to handle. The beads are joined by a copper seahorse pendant.

The beads are approximately 11″ (18cm). They come with a prayer to Poseidon, written specifically to be used with this prayer bead design and with a cotton muslin bag for storage. You can, of course, use the beads with any prayers, or for any god or gods, that you choose or that resonate with you.

They are available here at my Etsy shop.

New in my Etsy Shop: Prayer Bead Bracelets

I’m not all that much of a jewelry person, myself–except when I am. I’ve been wanting a way to keep my prayer beads on my person, within reach and easy to use; I’ve tried a few different designs and this is what I came up with

b-athena2

The pictured Athena bracelet is here; I’ve only got a few other pieces listed so far in this design but I am, personally, so fond of them that I just had to share!  They’re really a smaller and easier-to-wear (and usually less expensive, although I try to keep all my pieces affordable) version of the pocket prayer beads I make, and I’m having way too much fun making them :).

They are adjustable to fit wrists from 7-9″ and the metal bits are made from either silver-plated or gold-plated brass or steel. I can also make them with stainless steel metal bits at a small additional cost.  They fasten to the extender chain with a plain hook for ease of use, but I can also use a lobster clasp for greater security if you prefer (at no additional cost).
